New decision: whenever I have to vent... meaning I just have to write in order to stay sane. I'm going to label it "mommy truths". Because I am a mommy. and this is the truth.
Hello world. I have a confession.
I'm TIRED.
Don't get me wrong... being a mommy and a wife are two of the best things that have ever happened to me, PERIOD. but this week (and yes, it is only Tuesday) I feel p.o.o.p.e.d.
Maybe it's because I am currently a wife whose hubby is M.I.A. except for bedtime (due to his busy yet very important work schedule this week), a mommy to ELEVEN dogs, and a mommy to an all-of-the-sudden CLINGY 8 month old girl, and... by "all-of-the-sudden" I mean: the last three days she. has. not. let. me. put. her. down.
It started Sunday... Daddy had a sporting clay tournament so he left the house early to drive to Louisiana. Normally, getting dressed for church (or anything) is no problem... Lucy plays on her mat and watches cartoons while I get dressed- yada yada. Well for whatever reason, Lucy decides today is the day she needs to be with me, EVERY move I make: while I am putting on makeup, fixing my hair, getting dressed, peeing, eating, and anything else you can think of that is extremely hard to do with one hand, I'm having to do it. But still... I'm okay, no biggie, we get ready for church. She just needed some extra attention.
Fast forward to church. We get there (I'm really missing Daddy now because he normally drops us off at the front door and parks the car, but whatevs.. I survived) I go to drop her off in the nursery by handing her to this sweet lady who watches her EVERY Sunday morning during nursery (not a stranger, folks!) and WAHHH-WAHHH... Lucy starts boo-hooing. FIRST TIME EVER. I froze. Umm.. Paci? Here lets try this. NOT. Lucy was furious. We're talking mad, mad. Awesome.
So not knowing what to do, but knowing that I as a teacher would encourage the parent to go on, leave their child and then give the whole "she'll be fine" speech, I walked out the door and went to church. (What's that? Do I hear you clapping for me?? Thank you, thank you.)
As the choir was singing the last song at the end of church, I left to go and get her. Luckily, they said she had been great. Happy as ever, laughing, "such a joy"! YAY! Maybe she just was having a moment earlier.
Wrong again. We walk out into the hall to meet my parents. Now a little history- Lucy LOVES, LOVES, LOVES her Pop and Khaki. She is always so happy to see them.. so happy to play with them, and always lets them hold her. Well.. so we round the corner and naturally my dad goes to grab "his baby girl". WAHHH-WAHHH... yep. You guessed it. Hysterics. So my mom tries (why.. I don't know, we were all in a bit of shock so why not try to hand her off again?) WAHHH-WAHHH. Nope. Lucy is ONLY wanting her Momma, which happens to be ME.
Fast forward through our day... Lucy and I go eat with Pop and Khaki at Little Tokoyo. Luckily, Lucy was a sweet girl and was all smiles and giggles as she ate her green beans. We run by Target, get home, play with our new toys from Target, but anytime I leave the room- and I mean ANY time I get up to leave her side... WAHHHHH. Okay surely she is not feeling well? Teething perhaps?
Colby gets home around 5. He immediately comes in and goes to pick her up for some Daddy time... and in my mind I'm thinking... "Yay! Daddy's home! (Mom's you feel me?!) Oh, surely she wants her Daddy... please Lord... let her want her Daddy" But no... WAHHHHHHH. SERIOUSLY. This is the truth.
Luckily I married one hell of a man/daddy who won't accept that his baby girl didn't want him at that moment and he walks outside with her screaming self (so Mommy could also SCREAM inside, ha) and takes her to look at birds? or clouds? I can't remember. All I know is that that was the only moment on Sunday I had to myself (besides the church service).
I won't drag you through Monday- however, lets just say that I got dressed yesterday morning with Lucy on my right hip, and I cooked dinner last night (chicken quesadillas) with Lucy on my left hip (Hey, I might as well take advantage and have even muscle tone in my biceps, HA!)
I love her. I'd give my life for her. She is my WORLD. I don't have to tell you that. If you have ever read my blog you KNOW that I think she is the GREATEST thing in this world but I just feel like I should add it because as tiring as it is being "mommy", it is also the best job in the world and I know that one day I will SO miss the days when all Lucy wanted was me.
hmmm... now thinking about her one day "not wanting" me makes me want to cry, and go and grab her up from daycare and do all of the following again with a MUCH better attitude and a big smile on my face: (oh and my clingy child attached to my hip, of course!)
Open laundry room door
count the puppies to make sure there are still 8
look for missing puppy
bend down under desk and grab missing puppy
remove puppy from Lucy's mouth
put missing puppy back with brothers and sisters
start cooking dinner
feed the dogs (the 3 big dogs that is)
cook a little bit more
check/count the puppies again
look for the two missing puppies that have escaped now
find puppies from behind bed (dog bed that is)
put all puppies back into bed
get dinner onto plate
try to eat a bite of said cooked dinner
realize I ate bite of Lucy's "turkey and rice" baby food
gag and wave white flag
(p.s. that list up there... that was REAL life last night)
Merry Tuesday, everyone! I'll be the girl asleep by 8 (fingers crossed).
